US Open 2016 Slams Champions

If you love Tennis and watching two well-matched opponents face-off in a game that requires stamina, speed, and fast thinking on your toes, then the US Open Tennis tournaments this year should crown a Grand Slam season that started with the Australian Open in Melbourne and is winding its way down in New York as we tick away the final hours in an annual ritual that bridges international players in four separate tournaments on three continents.
In the big upset, Serena Williams top seeded player from the US, was just shut out from the finals by Karolina Pliskova from Czechoslovakia.  Karolina (current ranking is 12th) will go on to face off against Angelique Kerber from Germany who is currently second in the Women's Singles rankings.
Serena Williams is currently ranked no. 1 and her record ties with Steffi Graff  from Germany (retired) for 22 Grand Slam titles.  Her older sister Venus Williams is currently ranked sixth and has seven Grand Slam titles to her credit.
In the Men's Singles semifinals scheduled for tomorrow, Kei Nishikori (Japan) will face off against Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland who hold two Grand Slam titles and is currently ranked no. 3 in the singles division.  Kei is currently ranked no. 6 and is the only Japanese male tennis player to have reached the finals (2014) in a Grand Slam tournament.
Also in the semifinals will be Gael Monfils (France), ranked 12th overall playing against Novak Djokovic (Serbia), 12 times Grand Slam winner and ranked no 1 in the world.  This just in, with no. 2 Angelique Kerber (Germany) who holds one Grand Slam title defeating Carolina Wozniacki (ranked 74 and from Denmark) in the semifinals, Kerber is set to play Pliskova in the final match.
The finals for the Women's Singles will be played on Saturday September 10th and the Men's Singles is scheduled for the 11th.  Results will be updated the following week along with summaries from all four Grand Slam tournaments this year.
